THE WOMAN BEHIND THE MADNESS
Before you blame the décor, the pillows or the champagne… I’m Vanessa, owner of Oak Manor, performer, host, professional fuss-maker and occasional troublemaker.
After travelling the world, and staying in some fabulous, and some not-so-savoury places, I bought Oak Manor because I rather fancied creating the sort of place where hospitality has a pulse. Somewhere beautiful, comfortable and just the right side of fabulous, without anyone hovering around in a blazer asking if everything is to your satisfaction while you’re still trying to find the bathroom.
I believe a good host should notice things. Is your room too warm? Fix it. Want another pillow? Obviously. Staying in bed until an indecent hour? I support you entirely.
I love gorgeous rooms, good food, great stories and people who don’t take themselves too seriously. And I have absolutely no interest in running a place where the answer to everything is “I’m afraid that’s our policy.”
At Oak Manor, we prefer common sense, good taste and the occasional bad decision.

BREAKFAST. IF YOU FANCY IT.
We don’t do the standard hotel breakfast. Because frankly, life is too short for rubbery eggs.
But if breakfast is your love language, ask nicely and I’ll make you one for R200 — exactly how you like it, at the time you like it. Vegan, vegetarian, protein-packed, low-carb, low-calorie, smoothie bowl or a French croissant with enough butter to require a small lie to your cardiologist.
I owned a restaurant for eight years and I’m a trained barista, so the flat white is fabulous and the food knows what it’s doing.
And forget the breakfast hall. You’re invited into my dining room, where you eat like family. My son may even wander through before school and join you.
It’s not breakfast by default. It’s breakfast by request. And darling, if you’re having it, we’re doing it properly.
PERFECTLY PLACED. ALMOST SUSPICIOUSLY CONVENIENT.
Our guest house is sitting rather smugly in Newlands, surrounded by an indecent number of things you might actually want to be near.
Top schools (Rondebosch, Bishops, Herschel Girls, SACS, Rustenburg and Westerford) and Newlands Cricket Grounds are right around the corner.
Claremont head offices, UCT, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, Cavendish Square and some seriously good places to eat are all practically on our doorstep.
And if you’re here for appointments at the Cape Fertility Clinic or Life Kingsbury Hospital, you can stop Googling “nearest accommodation” and start Googling where to have dinner.
So basically, you can spend less time getting there and more time actually being there.
Some have called us dangerously convenient. We think they’re just jealous.
YOUR GUEST HOUSE IN NEWLANDS
Oak Manor drops you right in the middle of everything worth being near, top schools, Newlands cricket grounds, UCT, Kirstenbosch, great restaurants, Cavendish Square, and key medical spots, all just a quick, easy hop away. Convenient, yes. Boring, absolutely not.
